With Deep Gratitude
There is nothing like having a close call with death that helps me put so many things in perspective.
I was home one evening last weekend. It had been a long day of working and also celebrating my granddaughter’s 4th birthday. I was tired and basically counting down the time for me to go to bed.
Out of the blue, my carbon monoxide detector went off. Of course, the first thing that I thought was…I need to change the batteries. (I know…really I did think it was a fluke and nothing to worry about). So I changed the batteries and thought that all was well.
Within about a 1/2 hour, the detector went off again. Now, I thought…this is annoying, I’m going to take the batteries out! (Yep, I really thought this!) Because you see, I didn’t feel sick or bad. I felt tired but I justified it with “it’s been a long day and I just tired!” This time however, I, at least, opened up 2 windows “just in case”. But again, I didn’t think anything about it.
Another 1/2 hour or so passes and wouldn’t you know, the detector goes off again. This time I actually listened to it and called 911. The fire department came out and determined that my furnace wasn’t working properly. They turned off my furnace and the gas to my furnace.
I look back on it now and am so very grateful for so many things. It could have been very easy for me to just go to sleep and tell myself that I would deal with it tomorrow. However, tomorrow would have never come for me. I wouldn’t have woken up!
So this has been wake up call for me (one of many that I have gotten through my life). Even though I have tried to practice gratitude on a daily basis, I am making sure that I continue to do so and also let those people in my life know, how grateful I am for them.
Whether you have been into see me once, a few times or are someone that comes in on a regular basis, I want you to know that I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you. I am grateful for so many other things, but the purpose of this newsletter is just a reminder to you, that
I am thankful for you!
MY CHALLENGE TO YOU: First and foremost is, if you don’t have a carbon monoxide detector, please, please, please, go out and get one for each floor of your home. They don’t cost that much and definitely worth their weight in gold if they save your life.
MY SECOND CHALLENGE TO YOU: Take the time to be grateful for all the things that you have and all the people that you have in your life. Things can be replaced easily, but people…you can’t replace the wonderful people in your life! Thank you for being in my life!
