We All Remember That ONE Group Project
Whether it was in high school, college or a work situation, there is always a story about a group project that was to be done. You remember, don’t you?
Just a group of people/students that were to collaborate and do their part to make the project happen. Each person had their own ‘part or piece’ in this project. Shouldn’t be that hard, right?
Well, undoubtedly there was always at least one person (sometimes more) that wouldn’t, couldn’t or didn’t do their share. That meant that someone else or everyone else in the group had to pick up the slack in order for the project to work. That means other people couldn’t focus on their portion on the project as much because they had to also do another part of the project. So maybe the project didn’t turn out quite like it was supposed to because everyone didn’t do their part.
It is the same with your muscles. Each muscle has it’s own job to do. Usually, it has one main function (sometimes it has multiple functions, but for now, I will just focus on one function). So a muscle has one main function, but it also has other muscles surrounding it that are helpers. Just like a group project, your muscles also function as a group.
What happens when a muscle stops performing it’s main function? Of course, the other muscles are going to pick up the slack and try to maintain functionality as much as possible. But that isn’t the helper muscles job. That isn’t their main function and just like the group project where everyone has to pick up the slack for that one person, the muscles have to do the same thing. When this happens, then the whole muscle group can suffer. Just like that group project.
