Perfectly Imperfect
It’s the new year and you know what that means–there is always something we would like to change in our lives in the new year. Some people say New Year’s Resolutions, but I try not to put a label on it, for myself anyway.
So have you thought about what you want to accomplish, what you might want to change?
In the past, I have set these so-called New Year’s Resolutions, and haven’t done a great job at achieving them. But I think it is because I set my goals way too high! Now, there is nothing wrong with shooting for the stars, but I shot for the stars without a plan on how to achieve that goal. So, guess what? I didn’t achieve them at all. Then all the self-doubt came a-calling.
So now, I chose smaller goals and I break them down into even smaller goals. For example, let’s say I want to eat healthier. Instead of just buying a bunch of fruits and vegetables, and throwing away all of the junk in my house, I begin with yes, buying some fruits and veggies, but I still keep my junk around because the minute I throw it away, then I will be wanting it. So I will try to eat a fruit or veggie or two before I reach for the junk.
That’s why I call my goals–perfectly imperfect. I am not perfect, not in the slightest, but I am an imperfect being just trying to change some things in my life. And I’ll tell you, some days are better than others. My perfectly imperfect being just needs some candy, instead of fruits or veggies.
So where are you trying to be perfect, when being perfectly imperfect is acceptable? Make sure you give yourself some slack if your imperfect being isn’t getting things done perfectly.
