FAQs

What is your scheduling and cancellation policy?

Cancellation Policy Update–I am re-instating my cancellation policy beginning October 1, 2021. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. As a self-employed business owner, late cancellations or not showing up for your appointment leave me with an empty appointment slot that could have been filled with another client, so please give me plenty of notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. If you cancel in the 24-hour period prior to your appointment or are a no-show for your appointment, you will be charged for your full session.
Please, please, please, I ask that you respect my time and give me as much notice as possible. I appreciate it!

How often should I get a massage?

How hard are you on your body? How do you cope with the stress in your life? These are the questions that you need to ask yourself when considering how often to get a massage. This also depends on what your goals are. At a minimum, I suggest getting a massage at least once a month. If you have a highly stressful life, then every one to two weeks is recommended. Regular massage therapy, like regular exercise or regular medical check-ups, are essential in maintaining optimal health and can literally change a person’s health and outlook on life. Your body is incredibly smart and knows when it needs some work. All of us choose to ignore our body’s request for massage and touch sometimes, for a variety of reasons. However, if you feel as though you could get a massage every week and feel 10 times better, that is a clear sign. Also, remember, that progress made during a treatment is building on the progress made in a prior treatment.

Do I Need to Disrobe?

This is a question that a lot of people want to know, but are afraid to ask. You only have to undress to your level of comfort. You will be on a massage table with a sheet covering you at all times. This is for your comfort, privacy, and modesty. Only the body part being worked on will be undraped. Most clients undress completely knowing that there is a sheet covering them. This also allows the body to experience the feeling of wholeness that massage promotes. However, massage is all about feeling safe and relaxed, so whatever boundaries are natural and appropriate for you will always be observed. GENITALS ARE ALWAYS COVERED AND NEVER TOUCHED.

What happens during a session?

You will start the session by filling out some confidential paperwork. This paperwork is to find out your general state of health and will help me to become aware of any condition for which massage is not appropriate. After that, we will spend a few minutes discussing your goals and any specific areas that you are concerned about. I will leave you in the massage room to undress to your level of comfort. When you get on the massage table, please cover yourself with the top sheet. During your massage, only the part of your body that is being worked on will be undraped. Your modesty, privacy and comfort level will always be observed. There may be times when I specifically ask for your ‘help’ during the massage but the whole idea is for you to reconnect with your body, mind and spirit. There is music playing in the background unless you prefer silence. If you would prefer a different type of music, please ask me so that I can change it. After the massage is done, I will leave the room. Be sure to allow yourself a few minutes to relax after the massage before getting dressed in privacy.

what can I expect from a massage?

You can expect to have your massage in a safe, nurturing environment.  Massage in my office is about feeling safe, being nurtured, feeling comfortable with safe, non-sexual touch.

What parts of the body do you massage?

I offer full body THERAPEUTIC massage.  I try to work the whole body, excluding genitals, during a session.  However, if you have only a 30-minute session, then I will focus on the area of most discomfort; for example, working your neck and shoulders while incorporating work on the back also.  If there are areas that you would not like me to work; i.e. the feet, then please tell me before your session.

WHAT IF I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH TOUCH?

There are a variety of reasons why so many people are uncomfortable with touch.  Such as coming from a family that didn’t show love and affection in physical ways, to having experienced touch through abuse–physical or sexual.  Receiving massage in a safe, nurturing environment and from a caring and trusted therapist is a beautiful and safe way to begin to heal around physical, sexual, and even emotional abuse.  A caring and trusted massage therapist can be your partner in healing.

WHAT IF I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH MY BODY?

As a massage therapist, I see all body types–large, small, tall, short, young, and old.  Judging your body type is not my job nor my intent.  When a person is on my table, I no longer see the physical body that we all judge ourselves with.  What I see is the beautiful person that is inside that body–your heart and your soul.  So please don’t wait until you have lost a few pounds before getting a massage.  Make your appointment now to start feeling more comfortable in your own skin.

WHAT IS YOUR SET-UP LIKE? WILL OTHER PEOPLE BE WATCHING, LISTENING OR BE AROUND? IS IT A PUBLIC ROOM LIKE AT MY CHIROPRACTORS OFFICE?

Although my office is inside an office building, I have made every effort to ensure your privacy while you are in my office.  I have white noise machines throughout my office to help filter out any noise from outside my office and to help cover any conversations that are taking place while you are there.

Is it OK to talk during my session?

During the massage, I will ask questions pertaining to the pressure of my touch, the temperature of the room, etc. Some people relax by talking and others prefer to be in silence. It is your massage~if you need to talk or to be heard, then we can. If you need to be in a space where nothing is required of you with no questions asked, then we can do that too. Whatever helps you to relax and reconnect with your body, mind, and spirit is the best course of action.

What are your office hours?

I am typically in my office Tuesdays through Saturdays.  I have morning, afternoon, and evening times available. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.    All sessions are by appointment only, so please call to set up an appointment or click here to be taken back to my homepage to access my online scheduling.

I HAVE ALLERGIES, DO YOU BURN INCENSE OR CANDLES?

I have a scent-free environment in my office.  Candles are NOT burned nor is incense and also my sheets are laundered in scent-free detergent and fabric softener.  Please let me know if there are any other allergy issues that need to be considered.  I can provide you with a list of ingredients that are in my massage cream, if needed.

Do you take walk-ins?

Because I am the only person that works in my office, I am unable to take walk-ins. All sessions are by appointment only. I do try my best to get you in as soon as possible.

What if I am ticklish?

It is very helpful for me if you will tell me this before your massage. I can vary the pressure, the depth, and the pace of the massage strokes so that it doesn’t feel like you are being tickled.

Am I supposed to tip?

Tips are never expected but always appreciated. This is a matter of personal preference. You will always get the same level of excellent service whether you tip or not. The best ‘tip’ that you can give is to refer me to your family and friends.

Can I use my credit card?

Yes, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover, as well as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay are accepted. HSA and FSA are also accepted.  Cash (correct amount, please) and personal checks (there is a returned check fee of $35). If you are purchasing a gift certificate on my website, then PayPal is accepted also.

how long does a session last?

I offer 30-minute, 45-minute, 60-minute, 75-minute, 90-minute, and 2-hour sessions.  All appointments are for the time allotted, so please make sure that you are on time.  If you are late, then your appointment will end at the appointed time.

Do I get a full 60 minutes if I book an hour massage?

If you book a massage for an hour, then you will get very close to 60 minutes of time on the table. The only exception to this is if you are late. Then your massage will end at the scheduled time and you will be expected to pay for the full time that was allotted to you.
