Customer Service
Customer service has really been on my mind recently because I have been on the receiving end of some bad customer service lately, on both ends of the spectrum…not nearly enough service to the pushy, overbearing “you gotta do this now” type of customer service.
The massage school/massage center/salon that I was teaching at recently closed, as well as the hair salon where I got my hair cut. Therefore, I was looking for a new stylist to cut my hair. I tried several places and what I found wasn’t all that great!
The first place I went to spent only 15 minutes cutting my hair, etc. I understand that I don’t have a lot of hair to cut but I have paid, in the past, a lot less money for a better hair cut with the stylist really taking her time cutting my hair. At this place, I actually felt like the stylist really didn’t want to be bothered by doing my hair and really just wanted to go home. So there is the bottom of the spectrum…terrible customer service and for the price I paid, it felt like highway robbery too.
The next place I tried was the opposite on the spectrum. This is where the stylist not only didn’t do a good job with my hair, but also was telling me all the things I was doing wrong with my hair…shampoo is wrong, conditioner is wrong, etc., and then was pushing the salon’s products in my face, telling me that I absolutely needed these products before some irreversible thing happened to my hair. (Imagine me completely bald because I didn’t use the salon’s products. The horror….). Even though I politely told her that I couldn’t use a lot of different things because of my allergies, she continued to harp on and on and actually seemed mad at me for not buying any of her products. Again, not a very good experience with customer service…the pushy, overbearing kind.
So now you’re wondering what this has to do with massage. Although my main job is massage, there is also a very large component of customer service that goes with it. Making sure you are comfortable in regards to temperature, pressure, etc. Educating you in what could be causing your aches and pain, as well as suggesting stretches or ideas that may be helpful to you when you are at home. Allowing you plenty of time before and after your massage so that you don’t feel rushed in any way and answering any questions that you may have. This is part of my customer service.
I don’t what to be on the bottom end of the customer service spectrum nor do I want to be at the pushy, overbearing spectrum of customer service. I want to have the right customer service for each individual person that walks in my door.
Am I answering any and all questions that you have? Am I working in the areas of concern? Am I making sure that you are warm enough? Cool enough? Am I using the right amount of pressure? Are we talking too much? Not enough? In others words, is my customer service just right for you? If not, how can I make your experience better? There are no right or wrong answers here, just honesty in our communication.
I honestly do want to know if there is anything that will make your experience better. If there is, please do not hesitate to let me know and I would be glad to incorporate it the best that I can.
Oh and before I forget…yes, I finally did find a stylist that is just right for me. I was wondering if there was any such person out there.
